Here are 15 tips to help you manage stress. I list some additional resources at the end of this list.
1. Spend 15 minutes per day doing simple things that are SOOTHING such as listening to quiet music, sitting in nature, looking at a fish tank, etc.
2. Rehearse memories that give you JOY and make you happy.
3. Consider if there are ways to SLOW the pace of your life.
4. Say “I don’t think I will be able to help you this time” when you need to.
5. Resume some time for a HOBBY to help you regroup.
6. Take BREAKS during your day to catch your breath.
7. Improve your self-care by trying to EAT regularly, get enough sleep, and watch your caffeine/sugar intake.
8. Watch how you TALK to yourself.
The way we talk to ourselves internally (which we all do each day) will improve or aggravate difficult emotions!
9. Try to keep POSITIVE people in your life.
10. Try to let go of things you can’t CONTROL.
11. LIMIT entertainment that gets you more “worked up”.
12. Try to REDUCE perfectionistic demands on yourself and others.
13. Find healthy things that help you LAUGH and have FUN.
14. Use BREATHING techniques that relax you. Add peaceful IMAGERY.
15. Use your social SUPPORTS.
Exercise will help you burn “nervous” energy and is healthy. You can JOURNAL to help you identify situations that contribute to stress. The strategies listed above are to train your system to operate at a calmer level.
